Okay. Let’s talk Twilight.

After weeks of deliberating whether or not I should join the legions of shrieking fans in lining up for THE movie, I finally decided to watch it this Friday…upon the invitation of my officemates.

I liked the books well enough, but lost interest in the movie when I learned that Cedric Diggory a.k.a. Robert Pattinson will play Edward Cullen.  I have a vague memory of saying “Oh he’s cute” when I saw him in Goblet of Fire.  But really considering the guy crowd in that movie – Harry, Ron, Krum etc – well…let’s just say that his cuteness was relative.

 Then Entertainment Weekly came out with that awful awful photospread and I thought…”What could they possibly be thinking when they chose this guy”?

I’m not saying that Robert Pattinson is hideous (Admit it…the Entertainment Weekly photo..really doesn’t do much to disprove this).  However, Edward Cullen is supposed to be perfection in the flesh (or rather in marble).  In the novel, his main characterization is that he’s just so ^&*&^%*!! attractive, so gloriously perfect, so irresistibly drool-worthy that a girl will risk being ripped to shreds and sucked bloodless to be with him.  Entire paragraphs are written on his dazzlingly crooked smile, liquid topaz eyes, high cheekbones, strong jawline, straight nose, beautiful, full lips (the whole works)… and to bring that to the big screen…..they gave us this.

Aaaaaarrrgggghhhhh!

Anyway..whatever…Bottomline is that I will still watch the movie despite my bitterness over the casting. I will probably be spending some time thinking of other actors who are better suited for the role….Then again, I might end up drooling over this guy….

The whole casting hoopla reminds me of the time when Hayden Christensen was cast as Darth Vader…but then again Hayden was judged too pretty whereas Bobby just isn’t hot enough.
