I first heard this amazing word in the not-so-popular maritime romantic tragedy movie, Titanic.  Rose, in talking about how the survivors dealt with what remained of their lives, described it as a “long wait for an absolution that would never come”.

The dark blanket covers the bright earth
And Polaris quietly appears up north
The wind kisses the sun goodbye
The afternoon suddenly out of sight

Know
There was this girl nobody knows
And I remember how her smile would glow
There was this book that seemed unread
Of things we did and things we left unsaid

A hallowed piece of broken memories
My hands remember what I wrote

 Mirrors
 
 A song is heard from the radio
 The song’s melody slowly weaves into my ears
 Its lyrics resound sharply in my consciousness
 Nothingness mirrors the expression in my face
 
 I read the paper today
 The world is a meaningless puppet according to those words
 The fine print pierces the look from my eyes
 Doubting has been mirrored in every page uncovered

The challange is simple – I give a word, and he writes a poem in a day. For the first challenge, I used my Lit teacher’s favorite word “Unraveling”, and here’s his reponse .

                                                               Unraveling
                                       The mystery of the night covers your face
                               Even if the moon and stars look at you from infinity [...]

Lord I thank you for Your gift of life
I thank you for good health
That I know neither hunger nor want;
Thank you for those who love me best,
For friends whose encouragement
Have often chased away dark clouds
For many answered prayers
For kindly providences
That preserved me from danger and harm.
